Abu Rayhan al-Biruni was a polymath whose work spanned mathematics, astronomy, geography, physics, and history. 

He made careful observations of the Sun and stars, worked on measuring locations and the dimensions of Earth, and studied India, its culture, and its sciences in remarkable depth.
