Ahmad al-Farghani was one of the leading astronomers of the Abbasid era.
He wrote an important introduction to astronomy that circulated widely and was later translated into Latin, where he became known as (Alfraganus) .
He also wrote on astronomical instruments and was associated with engineering work in Egypt.
