In al-Andalus, the Muslim physician Abu al-Qasim al-Zahrawi emerged as one of the greatest surgeons of his age. 

In his medical encyclopedia Al-Tasrif, he devoted a major section to surgery and described surgical instruments and procedures. 

His work was translated into Latin and influenced European physicians for centuries. 

His legacy earned him a lasting place in the history of surgery.
